Tailscale

Tailscale is a VPN app that creates a secure private mesh network connecting all your devices without complex router configuration or port forwarding. Built on WireGuard, it establishes direct peer-to-peer connections between devices for low-latency, high-speed access—whether you're at home or across the world.

Unlike traditional VPNs that funnel traffic through a central server, this mesh network approach means your devices communicate directly with each other whenever possible. When direct connections aren't feasible due to firewalls or NAT restrictions, encrypted relay servers ensure your packets always arrive. Every device on your network receives a fixed IP address in the 100.x.x.x range that remains stable even as you switch between WiFi and mobile networks.

MagicDNS assigns readable hostnames to each device, so you access services by name instead of memorizing IP addresses. Subnet Routers extend connectivity to entire home networks—access printers, NAS drives, and IP cameras without installing the client on each device. Exit Nodes let you designate any device as an internet gateway, routing all your traffic through it just like a traditional VPN. This means you can browse from abroad as if you were home, without paying for a separate VPN subscription. Split Tunneling gives you granular control: choose which apps route through your network and which access the internet directly.

The Android app includes Shields Up, a one-tap firewall that blocks all incoming connections from your tailnet without disconnecting you. Taildrop transfers files directly between your devices without third-party services—a cross-platform alternative to AirDrop. Manage multiple accounts and tailnets from the same app, switch between profiles instantly, and monitor real-time connectivity status for every node with visual indicators. Tailnet Lock protects your network by requiring key verification before new devices can join.
